Safe Food recently launched a new interactive map of Queensland highlighting our state’s thriving red meat industry. The map shows where accredited export abattoirs, domestic abattoirs, meat processors and retail butchers are located throughout the state by local government area.
The intent is to help consumers appreciate the many different businesses that make up Queensland’s $72.5 billion red meat and livestock industry and the importance of maintaining food safety practices throughout the supply chain.
The map features over 1,200 businesses, but does not include accredited meat transporters and wild game harvesters due to the mobile nature of these businesses, or poultry meat farms and processors. When all considered together, Queensland has over 5,700 accredited businesses in the meat industry!
