Fact or fiction: The 5 second rule

Wikipedia tells us: “The five-second rule, sometimes also the three-second rule, is a western cultural food hygiene concept, that states that there is a defined window where it is permissible to pick up food (or sometimes cutlery) after it has been dropped and thus exposed to contamination.”

The big question here is, fact or fiction?

We’ve collected a few videos which examine the science behind this interesting turn of phrase:

So, what’s our take on the five-second rule?

It’s better to be safe than sorry! Don’t risk contamination and possibly a bout of food poisoning by eating something off the floor.
